The Android smartphone war is going ravingly hot in the U.S. Samsung is the cutthroat leader in Android mobile market. The company’s latest Galaxy S III has a strong competitor from its native rival LG. Called the Optimus G, the high-end Android handset from LG is surely a big threat for S3. Here we go for a specs comparison between the gadgets.

Corning’s Gorilla Glass technology gives anti-scratch protection for the handsets.

Processor, GPU & RAM: Both smartphones pack quad core CPUs. The S III touts a quad core Exynos 4412 Quad 1.4GHz Cortex-A9 CPU with 1GB of RAM and Mali-400MP graphical processing unit. The LG phone is up with a 1.5GHz Krait quad core CPU that encloses a Qualcomm MDM9615 processor, which is backed by a heavy 2GB of RAM and Adreno 320.

Software: The Samsung and LG handsets came out with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS). Both the phones will support its successor the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with S III in the U.S. and many other countries already starting to receive the firmware update.

Camera: In some markets, the LG Optimus G sports a heavy 13MP rear camera. In other countries, it has 8MP rear camera as does the Galaxy S III. The phones have all the advanced camera features like LED flash, autofocus, check quality, geo-tagging, face and smile detection and more. You can shoot video at 1080p quality. The S III and Optimus G respectively mount 1.9MP and 1.3MP front snappers for video chats.

Price, Availability: The Galaxy S III has been in market since May. All major cellular service providers in the U.S. including the U.S. Cellular sell the handset. Unlike its previous versions, Samsung has rolled out the same model of S3 for all carriers. The carriers sell the handset for $199 with two year contract. The LG Optimus G has arrived in the U.S. in November and it is also available for discounted prices with data contract.

Verdict
It is not easy to sport a winner of the handsets in this comparison. Both the phones are highly rich and powerful in specs. But, most of the in-detail comparisons suggest users to go for Galaxy S III, because it looks far better than its LG competitor in many aspects. First of all, it has a stunning design and it has been sold in huge numbers across the world. There is frenzy popularity for Galaxy S III and it is arguably the best Android phone out in stores.
